Whiten your grout
Has the grout between the tiles and your shower or bath
enclosure became stained or discolored? Restore it to its original shade of
white by using a toothbrush dipped in undiluted white vinegar to scrub away the
dinginess.
Shine ceramic tiles
If soap scum or water has dulled the ceramic tiles around
your hand basin or bath, bring back the brightness by scrubbing them with ½ cup
white vinegar, ½ cup ammonia and ¼ cup borax mixed in 4 liters of warm
water. Rinse it well with cool water and
let them air-dry. Use this same solution by wiping your shower doors.
Keep the paint on
your cement floors.
Painted cement floors have a tendency to peel off after a
while. You can keep the paint stuck to the cement longer by giving the floor an
initial coat of white vinegar before you paint it. Wait until the vinegar has
dried, then begin painting. This same technique will also help keep paint attached
to galvanized metal.
Get rid of rust
If you want to clean up those rusted old tools in your
storeroom, soak them in full strength white vinegar for several days. The same
treatment is equally effective at removing the rust from corroded nuts and
bolts. And you can pour vinegar on rusted hinges and screws to loosen them up
for removal.
Wipe your paint brush
Every time you dip your paint brush, you wipe the excess
against the side of the tin. Before you know it paint is dripping off the side
of the tin and the little groove around the rim is so full of paint that it
splatters everywhere when you hammer the lid back on again. Avoiding all this
mess is easy. Just wrap a rubber band around the tin from top to bottom, going
across the middle of the tin opening. Now, when you fill your brush, you can
just tap it against the rubber band and the excess paint will fall back into
the tin.
